Nancy C. & 1965 El Camino

1965 Chevelle El Camino

Sierra Tan exterior with white interior bench seat and door panels. The floor did not have carpet, but came with a rubber mat. The Elk was ordered from the factory with a 283 cu. in. engine, 2 barrel carburetor, and a 3 speed transmission on the column (3 on the tree). The transmission was unique as it is a true GM overdrive unit. The Chevelle did not come with power brakes or power steering either. The original owner had aftermarket AC installed at the dealer. This El Camino now belongs to Nancy but was inherited by her husband Eric from his father. Since Eric has a '70 SS, this one became Nancy's. Eric's father installed power brakes and power steering into the vehicle. He used the Elk as his daily driver. It has had 3 engines in it since he owned it.

Plans for the Elk include a frame off restoration, The chassis will be cleaned & detailed. All new brake lines, fuel lines and the suspension rebuilt with a posi rear end. The body will be sent off for paint and will be converted to Butternut Yellow. The interior will have a matching & contrasting black & white color scheme. Power for the Elk will be provided by a GM LS engine & transmission. The vehicle's current manual transmission will be converted to an automatic for drivability. The entire process will be photo documented and published to the web. Expected completion, late 2011 early 2012.

1966 Chevelle 300 Deluxe

Exterior: Fast Red non-factory color by PPG Interior: Black with bucket seats Engine: 396 bored to 410 cid with Comp Cams Xtreme Energy XE284H cam, Keith Black hypereutectic pistons, forged crank, Eagle SIR rods, iron closed chamber oval port heads, Edelbrock performer intake with Holley street avenger 780 carburetor, MSD E-Curve distributor with 45kv Accel super coil, Headman long tube headers into Flowmaster 3" American thunder exhaust system. The entire rotating assembly has been dynamically balanced and the power is estimated in the 450hp/500tq range. Drivetrain: Mucie M20 4-speed connected to a 12 bolt posi with 4:10 gears (to be change to 3:42 soon) I have owned this car since early 2003 and the entire frame off restoration was done using as little outside help as possible. With the exception of some machine work that needed to be done on the engine I completed all of the work myself. My goal was just to have fun building a car and end up with a nice street machine. I was not attempting to build a show quality or numbers matching garage queen. The bulk of the work was performed in approximately 1 ½ years and completed in January 2005
